Stewardson-Strasburg school board members are moving ahead with replacement of HVAC work in the school complex.

The Board contracted with Baer Heating and Air-Conditioning of Trenton to do the renovation work for $246,000. It was also agreed to establish a term loan to finance the work and the revenue from the Shelby County sales tax will be used to make the loan payments.

The District had installed HVAC work, but it was too noisy. The matter went to court, but a ruling in favor of the former contractor led the District to look at ways to replace the system and pay for it on their own.

The Board also finalized the color scheme for the Stew-Stras/Windsor Hatchets sports teams. Navy blue, Kelly green and gray will be used. It was also agreed to renew the junior high intergovernmental cooperation agreement with the Windsor School District for junior high baseball, junior high softball and junior high girls basketball for the next two school years.

Board members approved next year's school calendar with the first day of attendance for students on Tuesday, August 18, one day after a teacher's institute, and to dismiss school at 2pm for the first two weeks of the school year due to anticipated hot conditions. An agreement was approved with the Neoga School District to split the cost of a speech and language pathologist for the coming school year, and the Board approved a contract for professional services for sewer plant services and inspections for the coming school year while a long-term plan for upgrading the sewer plant is finalized.

In personnel moves, the Stew-Stras board hired Morgan Jones as an elementary teacher, and approved the hire of Ryann Ibanez as high school co-op cheer coach, while approving a medical leave of absence for Matthew Jones.
