A representative of Ameren Illinois shared information on the utility's major infrastructure upgrade with a Chamber First Friday Luncheon crowd at the Keller Convention Center.

Community Relations Coordinator Jeni Hagen said the utility is in the midst of a five-year $3.5 billion upgrade. Hagen said it's an effort to make the infrastructure is strong as possible, hoping to avoid as many power interruptions as possible.

With that in mind, Hagen said Ameren is installing what are called "intellirupters". The units are designed to help identify the source of outages and route power around the interruption from other sources to the trouble site.

Hagen also said the utility is installing more energy use control, and mentioned the replacement of meters that occurred in the area recently to make for more precise monitoring of energy usage.
