Among the many things to do in remodeling the former 5th/3rd Bank building into a new home for the Effingham public library is choosing the colors and finishes for the facility.

The decision came at this week's library board meeting.

Library Director Amanda McKay said board members were presented two options; blues and grays, as well as browns, reds and oranges. After what McKay termed "spirited discussion", a consensus was reached to go with browns, reds and oranges. It will allow design work on the facility to proceed and will give McKay some direction as far as acquiring furnishings for the facility.

The goal is to have the new library home ready for occupancy around the start of the school year.

The Library Board also re-approved the issuance of two general obligation promissory notes; one for $500,000, the other for $1.5 million. The notes are being issued against the eventual receipt of pledges by contributors to the library project.
