A forum featuring the candidates for Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education will be held tonight.

The forum will begin at 6pm in the auditorium at Effingham Junior High School and will run until about 7:30pm. A panel of local media will be posing questions to the candidates during the forum, which is sponsored by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.

All eight candidates are slated to participate. Those include incumbents Carol Ruffner, Jeff Michael and Todd Schaefer, as well as Peggy Campbell, Patty Russell, Matthew Jones, Jane Willenborg and Kathleen Smith. There are four seats on the Board to be filled; long-time incumbent Delbert Soltwedel is not seeking re-election.

Candidates have been invited to stick around after the forum for those who might have questions.

Tonight's forum will be aired live on 979XFM. Wayne will record the forum and it will be up on the website later this week.

A reminder that a similar forum will be held next Tuesday, March 31, also at 6pm and also at Effingham Junior High School and also sponsored by the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce and also to be aired live on 979XFM. We'll also have online coverage of that forum and we'll be letting you know more about that soon.

Admission to both forums is free.

Election Day is two weeks from today, Tuesday, April 7.
