Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Train in Vandalia (ADDING NAME OF DECEASED)

A person was killed after being struck by a train in Vandalia on Sunday afternoon.
Vandalia Police say that officers responded to 8th and Main Streets at 4:04 pm Sunday regarding a report that a pedestrian was struck by a westbound CSX train.
Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen said the person killed was 71-year-old David Waltz of Vandalia. Bowen said Waltz stood on the tracks and was struck by the train. Bowen pronounced Waltz dead at the scene at 4:11pm.
The Vandalia Police Department was joined by the Fayette County Sheriff's office, Bowen's office, Vandalia Fire Department and the Illinois State Police at the scene. The incident is still under investigation.
