One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash north of Salem Wednesday morning.

19-year-old Wyatt McGhee of Salem was fatally injured when his car was struck by a garbage truck along Illinois 37 at 8:22am. McGhee was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police say McGhee stopped at an intersection and then turned onto the highway into the path of the garbage truck driven by 30-year-old Lance Koester of Edgewood.

A 14-year-old passenger in the McGhee vehicle and a passenger in the garbage truck, 25-year-old Robert Tennyson of Kinmundy, were both injured in the crash and were taken to Salem Public Hospital for treatment.

No citations were issued in the crash.
