Beecher City school board members could vote this week on major renovation work at their junior-senior high school building.

Superintendent Scott Cameron said the Board tabled a vote at Monday night's meeting pending approval from their attorney of the agreement. A special meeting could be held Thursday night to act on the contract.

The project would include significant electrical work, re-roofing the 1967 building addition, a new gym floor, and a new heating and air-conditioning system. Also on the list is drainage work and parking lot improvements in the lot behind the building. Cameron said the idea of a concrete parking lot will not be pursued, but the work will instead involve tearing up the lot, and putting down rock and then oiling the lot. The drainage problems will be addressed during the work on the parking lot.

The Board held a special session ahead of the regular meeting. Several teachers and about one dozen members of the public turned out to get questions answered about the project.

In other business Monday, the Beecher City board honorably dismissed educational support staff members Sherry Wright, Roma Ryan and Mitch White with the provision they could be recalled later if finances and enrollment warrant. Cameron was authorized to start work on next fiscal year's budget, and Phil Lark and Rosa Milleville were re-hired as building principals; Milleville at the elementary building and Lark at the junior-senior high building.

The Board voted in support of the statewide Vision 20/20 education initiative, approved a commodity purchasing agreement, tabled action on technology upgrades until the final costs are in, and approved next year's school calendar. A Teacher's Insitute is set for August 17. If all seven snow days are used, the final day of next school year would be May 31.
