Members of the Effingham County Genealogical and Historical Society say that their materials and volunteer assistance will be available in the new library.

As Eleanor Bounds, ECGHS librarian and editor of “Crossroad Trails” Quarterly explained, “We look forward to continuing to offer the community our assistance with their genealogy inquires in the new library.”

In preparation for this move, ECGHS and library staff have been working to add items to the online catalog which allows those searching for genealogy materials to find the items and contact the Effingham County Genealogical and Historical Society volunteers for further assistance. ECGHS members are not discarding any materials that pertain to genealogy or history. They are sending books that have not been used for several years to the Illinois State Library where they will be available to a wider range of researchers.

Currently ECGHS volunteers are available to assist the public with genealogy inquiries between 10 a.m. and Noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays. For a fee, a genealogist will also search for information and respond to inquiries.

ECGHS welcomes new members at any time. Individual membership costs $20 a year and those interested can contact Cathy Heiden at cheiden@consolidated.net , LoElla Baker at clbaker@consolidate.net or Eleanor Bounds at elpobo@consolidated.net for further information.
