Lake Land College trustees Monday were updated on an upcoming visit by a reaccreditation team.
Colleges and universities are visited on a periodic basis by review teams to make sure they are accomplishing their mission. The Higher Learning Commission is scheduled to visit Lake Land on March 16.
Typically, the reaccreditations have been for 10 years, but the methodology is changing to make a goal of continuous review possible.
The Board approved revisions to Board policy concerning the definition of a fulltime employee and a ban on smoking and use of tobacco products, and also reviewed a list of 15 employees requesting planned retirements. The Board reviewed this year's Distinguished Service Award and Alumnus Achievement Award recipients and retiree Wall of Fame inductees, with the award winners to be publicly revealed closer to graduation in May.
The Board agreed to allow award of a tuition waiver to the winners of a high school business and computer contest later this spring, and also heard about an Explorers Open House at the Kluthe Center in Effingham on April 23. It's an effort to encourage those considering a return to college.
Following a closed session, the Lake Land Board designated Joseph Tillman, a Lake Land instructor, as the next Technology Division Chair, effective August 24.
