Two people were injured in a crash north of Effingham.

The crash occurred just after 3:30pm Tuesday on US 45 at the Green Creek Road. Effingham County sheriff's deputies report vehicles involved were driven by 31-year-old Edward Stief, Jr. of Effingham and 39-year-old Shane Frederking of Altamont. Both units were headed northbound and Stief attempted to pass Frederking at the same time Frederking began to make a left turn and the units collided. Stief's vehicle ended up in a ditch, while Frederking's vehicle came to a stop on the roadway.

Frederking was injured, but did not go for treatment at the time. A passenger in Stief's vehicle, 37-year-old Jason Verdeyen of St. Elmo, was injured and was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Sheriff's deputies cited Stief for improper passing at an intersection.
