The Dieterich school board Monday set the calendar for the 2015-16 school year.

The district will begin activities on Monday, August 17 with a Teachers' Institute. The first day of student attendance will be Tuesday, August 18.

The Board set tentative graduation and promotion dates. The high school graduation ceremony is tentatively set for Sunday, May 17 at 1pm. The tentative date for junior high promotion is Tuesday, May 19, or the last day of semester exams, at 7pm.

The Board approved intergovernmental agreements with the Regional Office of Education for alternative education classes for next school year, and agreed to allow improvements by the Dieterich Park District on a T-Ball field located on school property including addition of bases, bleachers and fencing.

Board members accepted a letter of resignation from junior high Scholar Bowl sponsor Debbie Bower, accepted an irrevocable letter of retirement from teacher Larry Arney as of the end of the 2017-18 school year, approved one-year administrator contracts for next year for grade school principal Kathy Pattenaude and junior-senior high school principal Kevin Haarman, and okayed a new three-year contract with Superintendent Cary Jackson. Also approved was the hiring of Becky Wilson as high school softball head coach and Lonnie Dean Tull as high school softball assistant coach. The Board also approved recommendations from the District Safety Committee including the training of the Effingham County School Resource Officers in ALICE, which is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate as a method for addressing an intruder in the schools. The SROs will then train the faculty and staff.
