A former Newton woman has been sentenced to prison time for violating her probation.

Jasper County State's Attorney Kevin Parker said Judy Houser admitted the probation violations during a December court appearance. On Tuesday, Jasper County Resident Circuit Judge Dan Hartigan sentenced the 61-year-old Houser to three years in prison.

Houser was placed on 30 months' probation last July for unlawful possession of methamphetamine manufacturing materials. Parker said one of the terms of Houser's probation was to abstain from the use of illicit drgs. In November, Parker filed a request that Houser's probation be revoked after she tested positive for meth.

In imposing sentence, Judge Hartigan found that a sentence of further probation for Houser would deprecate the seriousness of the offense, and that a term in prison was necessary.
