A local resident stopped by the studios Tuesday afternoon to let us know that someone attempted to pull a scam on him, and he wanted to warn us, and you.

The man said he received a phone call from a man with a heavy accent, saying he was from the IRS. The caller said the man had to phone a number and use his credit card to make a payment to the IRS for what he alleged was an unpaid charge. The caller threatened to take further steps including coming to "knock down your door."

The local man didn't try to phone back from his home, but from his workplace and no one answered the phone.

Just another reminder that the IRS does not take such actions by phone. Your best remedy is to simply hang up on the caller. If the calls persist, contact your local law enforcement agency.
