Governor Bruce Rauner signed an executive order Thursday designed to increase government transparency.
Under the executive order, Rutan-exempt employees will be published on the Illinois Transparency and Accountability Portal website, giving Illinois residents a way to easily find the state's political hires.
The governor said the IDOT "hiring scandal" proved the public deserves a way to easily find out who are all the political appointees in state government. He said the executive order is a "first step towards earning back the people's trust."
The executive order also instructs the Illinois Department of Central Management Services to assist units of local government in providing information about their employees for posting on the ITAP website.
We contacted Lance Trover of the governor's office as to whether there is a deadline by which the names have to be posted on the website. Trover e-mailed that "we will be working with CMS (Central Management Services) to ensure they comply with the order in a timely fashion."
