The Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs State Convention is being held this weekend in Springfield.

A key event at each convention is the State Fair Queen Pageant. It's a contest where all of the county fair queens selected over the past year will compete for the title of 2015 Miss Illinois County Fair. The winner will reign over the 2015 Illinois State Fair and DuQuoin State Fair.

Among those competing will be 2014 Miss Effingham County Fair Melissa Davis of Dieterich.

The pageant runs throughout the weekend, with the more than 70 contestants reduced to a final dozen or so contestants before the queen is selected.

The state fair talent show also takes place this weekend with the winners of the senior and junior divisions of the Effingham County Talent Search hoping for an opportunity to perform at the State Fair this summer. The contestants will include Senior Division winners Lindsey Tieffel and Daejah Hawthorne of Effingham and Junior Division winner Sophie Deters of Effingham.

The state convention is also the time when county fair boards target the acts they want to secure to perform.
