Lake Land College has long worked to provide adult education opportunities, with a particular emphasis on those who've lost their jobs for reasons beyond their control. At the college's Board of Trustees meeting Monday, information was shared on a collaborative effort involving Lake Land's Center for Business and Industry and the Adult Education program to make employment opportunities available.
Eric Boerngen of the Center for Business and Industry told trustees of a course to be offered in Mattoon to be followed by a job fair. Those who successfully complete the course are guaranteed a job interview. A similar effort was undertaken in connection with North American Lighting at their Paris plant.
Also Monday, the Board agreed to abate any increase in property taxes resulting from an expansion of the Evapco plant in Greenup; terminated a contract with Breese Printing for producing the college's Full Circle publication due to quality issues and hired United Graphics of Mattoon to print the summer edition of the publication; and postponed any action on a grievance filed by the Lake Land College Faculty Association filed in October until the Board's February meeting.
