An Effingham woman was arrested Friday on an outstanding warrant for missing a court appearance in a DUI case, but now faces felony charges for alleged actions during the arrest.
24-year-old Ashley Ohlund reportedly attempted to hide from the officer attempting to arrest her on the warrant. Ohlund reportedly hid in the bathroom of the business where she works. Testimony indicated that while Ohlund was hiding, she attempted to flush quantities of heroin down a toilet. The officer intervened, though, and made the arrest. Ohlund is now charged with felony possession of heroin and felony obstruction of justice.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Ealy recommended this weekend that Ohlund be held on significant bond, noting Ohlund has done prison time on a heroin matter in 2010. On Sunday, Judge Ericka Sanders set Ohlund's bond in the amount of $100,000. Ohlund is to make her first appearance on the new felony charges on Monday morning.
