Burst Sprinkler Pipes Causing Problems

In addition to the extreme cold, local businesses are now dealing with frozen sprinkler pipes that are starting to burst.

Effingham firefighters were called to the John Boos and Company location on East Fayette Friday morning. That call came after a series of calls on Thursday, including one to K-Mart that left water in a retail area near the toy section.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy encouraged local residents to take steps to keep their pipes as warm as possible. Holomy said the problems could continue when the frozen pipes begin to thaw.
