Police Investigating String of Weekend Burglaries

Effingham City Police are investigating a string of burglaries over the weekend, including one to a storage unit owned by Village Square Mall store Bath & Body Works.

Police say the storage unit, located at 1910 South Banker, was broken into sometime between 9:00 P.M. on Friday and about 4 P.M. Saturday. It's unknown at this time the value of items broken or stolen. An undetermined amount of damage also occurred to a door during the incident.

Another burglary, this one from a vehicle owned by Nicholas Wernsing of Neoga, occurred while it was parked at 2300 South Banker between 6:20 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. Friday. Stolen was a laptop computer owned by Tracie Beckman of Neoga, valued at $398.00.

Around that same time frame, burglary from a vehicle owned by Matthew Brown of Effingham, occurred while it was parked at 503 North Maple between 7:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Friday. Three hitches valued at $150.00, a flashlight valued at $99.00, a gear bag valued $30.00, fire extinguisher valued at $30.00, jumper cables valued at $50.00, EMT kit valued at $250.00, a scanner valued at $100.00, socket set valued at $20.00 and a screwdriver set valued at $40.00 were all stolen.

Yet another vehicle was broken into Friday evening, one owned by Amanda Pierce of Shumway. Her vehicle was parked at 1910 South Banker between 7:00 P.M. and 9:30 P.M. Friday. Stolen was a duffel bag valued at $50.00, purse valued at $50.00 and a driver’s license.

Finally, burglary from three vehicles occurred while parked at 420 West Industrial sometime between 11:30 P.M Friday and and 3:26 A.M. Saturday. A pack of cigarettes valued at $6.00 was stolen from the first vehicle. A tablet valued at $329.00 was stolen from the second vehicle. It's unknown at this time what was stolen from the third vehicle.
