Several individuals filed at the beginning of the filing period for Effingham City Council earlier this month. That led to a lottery Monday afternoon to determine ballot position.

Candidates are typically listed on the ballot in the order in which they filed. When more than one files at the start of the filing period, a lottery is necessary.

Junior Willis drew the top spot on the ballot in the race for Effingham mayor. That means Jeff Bloemker will be listed second, and then Larry Micenheimer, who filed later in the filing period.

Dustin Reardon will get the top spot in the race for one of four city commissioner spots. He'll be followed by Brian Milleville, Kevin Esker, Don Althoff, Kevin Willis, Merv Gillenwater, and then Michael Williamson and Tim Koester. Wiliamson and Koester filed later in the filing period, so were not part of the lottery.

The election is set for April 7, 2015. The new Effingham City Council will take office at the start of May 2015.
