Pedestrian Struck and Killed at Heartville

An Effingham man was fatally injured when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on the highway at the north edge of Heartville.

The incident occurred about 9:30pm Friday and resulted in the death of 41-year-old Wesley Edward Blumer of Effingham. State police say Blumer, who was wearing dark-colored clothing was walking northbound in the northbound lane of the highway when he was struck by the pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Gregory Yocum of Effingham. Blumer was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where he was pronounced dead.

Yocum was arrested by State Police on a count of DUI alcohol.

The incident occurred on US 45 at 1375th Street. State Police and the Effingham County Coroner's Office are investigating the incident.
