An Effingham County grand jury has indicted 60-year-old John H. Adams of Bluffs, Illinois on two counts of Aggravated DUI Causing Death in connection with the fatal auto accident on I-57 north of Effingham in October that claimed the life of 23-year-old Brianne Martin of Effingham.
Adams made his first appearance on the two-count bill of indictment on Thursday morning in Effingham County Circuit Court. The western Illinois man's case was scheduled for jury trial on Monday, March 9 with a pre-trial date of Monday, February 23 at 11am.
Earlier this month, Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt filed a motion to reduce bond in Adams' case. Judge Allan Lolie denied the defendant's request during Thursday's hearing and maintained Adams' bail at $75,000. Adams is being held in Effingham County Jail.
