Effingham Park Board commissioners voted Thursday to participate in the proposed Effingham City-County Enterprise Zone.

The participation means the Park District agreed to abate any increase in property taxes in the Zone, which is hoped to be an incentive for new development in the Zone.

There is an Enterprise Zone in place that is due to expire in 2018. If the new Enterprise Zone is approved by the State, it would go into effect in 2016 and would replace the existing zone.

The matter of participation in the Enterprise Zone was the only item before the Park Board on the special meeting agenda.
