Altamont school board members were updated on enrollment at this week's meeting.

Enrollment at the grade school is at 499, down one form last month and down 11 from the same time a year ago. Enrollment at the high school is at 260. Last year's December enrollment was at 284, but was at 256 two years ago.

Altamont Superintendent Jeff Fritchtnitch reported the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has alerted the District that it is pre-approved for up to $20,000 in state capital improvement grant funds. Fritchtnitch reported he has to complete a survey detailing how the funds would be used and that he'd be talking with the maintenance director and the building principals to seek their input.

The Board heard the District will host a technology training session in February, passed the tax levy for the coming year, and purchased two school buses. Also, the Board upheld the suspension of a student and with the provision the student can enroll in alternative education. Also, the Board accepted the resignation of teacher's aide Lindsey Wendling, renewed workers compensation insurance through Mihlbachler Insurance Agency of Effingham, and discussed resurfacing the track.
