The defense was granted a delay in the case of Richard Marschke Monday in Effingham County Circuit Court.

The Vandalia resident is charged with drug induced homicide for allegedly providing the heroin that led to the death of an Altamont man early this year.

Court-appointed defense attorney Bill Hoffeditz sought the delay. Hoffeditz said he has received the transcript of audio interviews conducted with his client by authorities at the time of his arrest, and needs time to review the transcript.

The case is due back in court for a status hearing on January 28 at 11am.

Marshchke is being held in Effingham County Jail on $1 million bond.
