Evapco, a manufacturing plant based in Cumberland County, is seeking a property tax abatement as part of their expansion project.
Evapco officials Bruce Schehlein and Michael Giannavola outlined the Evapco history and its growth and expansion project. The officials asked that a tax abatement be allowed at 100% for five years on new tax revenue generated by the expansion. The expansion project began on September 1 and the goal is to be completed and in operation by April 1, 2015.
The expansion line will be for a brand new project with a goal of creating jobs in the community. The school board is expected to vote on the measure at their December meeting.
Board members voted to approve a trip to Costa Rica for Spanish Club members. The trip will be fully funded by the individual students and will take place next June 12-19.
The Board removed Rebecca Arnold from the cook and bus driver list, added Paula Ghast and Wanda Sowers to the custodian sub list, and added Scarlett McBride to the teacher aide list. Board members heard that Thanksgiving holiday dismissal will be November 26 at 2:20pm and that classes will resume on December 1. Semester exams will take place on December 18-19 and school will be dismissed at 2:20pm on both days.
Board members scheduled a tax levy hearing for the December 18 meeting, and accepted renewal of workers compensation insurance provided by Illinois Public Risk Fund through Ramza Insurance Group. The Board also hired Kristi Shirley as a bus driver, employed Sydney Stults and Jake Edwards as assistant middle school girls track coaches with the two splitting the stipend, and agreed to post the position of high school special education aide.
