City police officer Jason Caraway has been recognized with a Special Act Award by the Effingham City Council.

Effingham Mayor Merv Gillenwater presented Officer Caraway with the award at this week's Council meeting.

Caraway was recognized for his actions earlier this year when he talked an individual out of jumping off a city overpass. The mayor noted Caraway stood and talked with the individual in the rain until a safe end to the incident was reached.

You can recognize a City employee for a Special Act Award, recognition that can be given at any time during the fiscal year by City administration to recognize any group or individual effort that goes significantly beyond expected job performance.
