An Effingham woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 57 north of Effingham Friday afternoon.

Illinois State Police report that about 3:35 pm, a vehicle driven by 60-year old John Adams of Bluff, IL was traveling at a low rate of speed in the passing lane, and was turning into a center crossover in the median. Adams then stopped in the crossover, with the back of his trailer still in the passing lane. A following vehicle in the passing lane, driven by 23-year old Brianne Martin of Effingham, struck the rear of the trailer, and went off the road to the right.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A State Police accident re-constructionist was called to the scene, and the highway was kept to one lane of travel during the investigation. State Police say Adams was ticketed for unsafe equipment.

There were no other injuries in the collision.

Funeral information for Brianne Martin is located here.
