Ameren Customers to Pay $20 for Refusal to Upgrade

Ameren customers will be dishing out a little more cash if they refuse to upgrade to advanced meters.

The Illinois Commerce Commission has given Ameren the green light to charge people $20 if they don't comply with the upgrades. Company officials say they will make several attempts to contact the customer before assessing the fee.

The new meters are being installed now and the process will continue through 2019.
