Lawmakers should know if they'll need to go back to the drawing board on pension reform soon.

A judge in Sangamon County says they're putting the pension case on a fast track, which means the Court could issue a ruling by the end of the year. Unions filed suit after the pension law passed, claiming it violates the state's constitution because it cuts their benefits.

The judge wouldn't comment on the specifics of the pension law, but he did say that the recent Supreme Court ruling on retiree health insurance premiums may be a road map on how they proceed.
