A fast-moving severe thunderstorm pushed through Kinmundy and Forbes State Park near Omega early Saturday night.
The storm snapped off two power poles and caused a large tree limb to fall on a house near 4th and Monroe in Kinmundy. The power poles that snapped were on 4th and Monroe Streets. The poles and power lines fell across the streets, forcing the streets to be closed to traffic until Ameren Illinois could complete repairs. Ameren Illinois reported power was out to only 10 homes in Kinmundy.
Kinmundy Police Chief Cory Parker said very strong winds and heavy rains hit the city for five to 10 minutes shortly after 7pm.
As the storm intensified over Kinmundy, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for both northeast Marion and Clay counties. The weather service said radar indicated wind gusts of up to 60MPH as well a nickel-size hail were part of the storm as it passed through the area.
