St. Elmo school board members have reviewed a fiscal year budget anticipating a $299,000 deficit.

Superintendent Deb Philpot mentioned several reasons for the deficit, with a lack of fiscal responsibility at the state level being chief among them. Philpot said the State continues to cut 11% off of the State Aid allocation that, for St. Elmo, results in a loss of $203,000 for this year. She said, over the last four years, the cuts at the state level has created a loss of $736,201 in State Aid.

St. Elmo board members filled a vacancy on the Board, naming Mindy Healy to the open spot. The Board also amended the District calendar, moving a half-day of school improvement from September 12 to September 25.

Board members also granted their FFA officers and advisor permission to attend the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
