Dieterich school board members heard this week from members of the Effingham County Construction Occupations Class Steering Committee about the proposed program.
Bob Schultz and Mike Wente spoke about the program, which would be available to both students and adults.
The Board also learned the District has been awarded the EPA Energy Star Award, which is granted to districts who use 35% less energy and produce 35% less greenhouse emissions than similar buildings across the nation.
Junior-Senior High School Principal Kevin Haarman reported on last year's Prairie State Achievement Exam scores. The exam has been given to junior students throughout Illinois. Haarman reported that Dieterich students met or exceeded standards in Math at a rate of 59%, Science 54%, and Reading 70%. Haarman and Elementary School Principal Kathy Pattenaude reported on 2014-15 registration. Pattenaude reported an increase in enrollment in the early elementary grades, which was seen as very positive for the District.
Also, the Dieterich board hired Don Meyer as a bus driver, tabled the matter of a teacher stipend and lab fee for the long distance learning lab hosted by the Dieterich district and will revisit the issue at the September meeting as Brownstown is wanting to join Dieterich and Beecher City in the lab, and heard from Superintendent Cary Jackson on safety grant projects. Those include protective film on all entry doors to prevent entry through the glass doors, new security camera system and cameras for the District, an additional secure entrance on the west side of the building, and additional communication equipment.
Jackson also reported that Teacher Institute for Dieterich will be Friday, August 15 with the first day of student attendance on Monday, August 18.
