Voters in certain precincts within Effingham County will experience a change in location of polling place for the General Election of November 4, 2014.
Effingham County Clerk Kerry J Hirtzel has announced polling place changes for the Precincts of Douglas 8, Douglas 9, Watson 1 and Watson 3.
Precincts Douglas 8 and Douglas 9 will be voting in the auditorium of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. Access to the auditorium may be obtained through the North door of the auditorium, through the main lobby, or through the accessible sliding door to Physical Rehab. Directional signage will assure voters entrance to the auditorium. Election Judges will then process voters. Precincts Douglas 8 and Douglas 9 previously voted at the Effingham County Health Department.
Precincts Watson 1 and Watson 3 will now be voting at the Effingham County Emergency Services Building at 311 W. Miracle Avenue off of Route #45 South of Effingham. The EMS Building is located directly behind The Auto Mall of Effingham. Accessibility for this polling place is on the East side of the building where the entrance is directly into the polling room. There is also access through the front door. Precinct Watson 1 was previously at the Watson Township Town Hall in Heartville. Precinct Watson 3 was previously at the Effingham County Memorial Airport.
Clerk Hirtzel stated the need for better traffic flow within the polling place, convenience, space and accessibility for the voters of these precincts as reasons for the new polling locations.
Voters in these precincts have received new Voter Identification cards. Clerk Hirtzel requests that each voter verify all information on the Voter ID Card. It is important the information is current since a voter’s rights at the polls could be challenged.
