Five people were injured in a crash Friday evening in St. Elmo.

State police say the crash occurred at 7pm on US 40 at the intersection with Main Street.  Police report a van driven by 40-year-old Rebecca Pharis of Jewett stopped for a turning vehicle and was rear-ended by a van driven by 21-year-old Steven Todoschuk of Stony Creek, Ontario, Canada.

Pharis was injured and was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.  Three of her passengers...32-year-old Serena Ruholl, 11-year-old Chranne Ruholl and eight-year-old Reba Ruholl, all of Jewett...were also injured and were also taken to St. Anthony's.  A fourth passenger, 14-year-old Crystal Pharis of Jewett, was also injured and was airlifted to Springfield Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Todoschuk was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.  He was not injured.
