Transportation projects are moving forward in Jasper County.

County Board members Thursday night heard that work continues on the Crooked Creek Bridge, and dirt work is to start on the Fox Township Bridge within the coming week.

Ray Diel of Snedeker Risk Management presented county officials a check for a grant designed to improve safety. The check for $4,122.50 will cover half the cost of a camera system installed in the fall. The Board also approved purchasing a mannequin for the ambulance department for $2,200 to supplement a $2,000 grant that will complete the purchase.

The Board amended the fiscal year budget adding $23,000 for additional workers compensation premium funding; discussed changes recently passed at the state level concerning 911, so that the cell phone surcharge will be 73 cents per line; and heard that the State is changing the rules concerning enterprise zones, reducing the number of zones and asking those with a zone in their communities to reapply for a zone. Jasper County is now a part of the Richland County zone; they would like their own for Jasper County.
