The 3rd Annual For the Good of Illinois Banquet drew about 300 supporters to the Effingham VFW Post Home Thursday night.

For the Good of Illinois is an organization working to bring to light the spending by elected and appointed officials and governmental bodies. Most recently, For the Good has been working to shed light on the operation of the Veterans Administration, which has been criticized for a lack of proper care and attention to some of the nation's veterans.

Mette, who heads Effingham Builders Supply, was recognized at Thursday's event for the 75th anniversary of Builders Supply in what is his 90th birthday year. A proclamation approved by the Illinois General Assembly was presented to Mette along with a birthday cake.

Andrzejewski also recognized many of those in attendance who have worked as volunteers for For the Good.
