The 40th Annual Day of Prayer for Life has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 18.

The Day of Prayer will take place at St. Francis Catholic Church in Teutopolis, as it has the previous 39 years. The day is dedicated to all lives lost since the US Supreme Court ruling in January 1973, legalizing abortion.

Reverend Robert Spriggs will be celebrant and homilist for the closing 7:30pm Mass. In his 49 years of priestly duties in the Springfield Diocese, Father Spriggs has served in numerous parishes as administrator and parochial vicar, was Chaplain in two correctional centers, and Associate Director of Deacons from 2002 to 2012. At present, he is retired, but is kept busy filling in where needed, especially when priests are being transferred to different locations.

The Day of Prayer will begin with an 8am Mass with Father John Eaton, pastor of St. Francis, followed by continuous hours of prayer with all parishes of Effingham Deanery participating. The hour of noon to 1pm will be silent. All denominations are invited to join in prayer any hour of the day.

The 4 to 5pm hour is designated the youth hour, but everyone is welcome to attend whenever possible.

A reception for Father Spriggs will follow immediately after the 7:30pm closing services in St. Clare Hall, adjoining the church.
