Clark County murder suspect Thomas Messina will be examined as to his fitness to stand trial.
A defense motion was granted Monday morning that will allow the Windsor man to be checked to determine whether an appropriate plea in his case would be guilty but mentally ill or not guilty by reason of insanity. The 20-year-old Messina is charged in the death of Gregory Scott Collins in January. Collins' body was found inside his home in Casey when authorities were fighting a fire at the residence.
Messina is due to go on trial August 12, with a pre-trial hearing set for July 30. His trial had been scheduled to begin this week.
He remains in custody in Clark County Jail.
