The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education took action on several items at a special meeting Monday afternoon.

Board members voted to expel a student for two years. The student will be referred to alternative education programs.

The Board approved a 2.2% pay hike for non-certified, non-union staff members. The increase is retroactive to July 1, 2013.

There was also action on personnel items. Kristyn Bowman was hired as a fifth grade teacher for the coming school year, and Amy Donaldson was appointed a library clerk at Effingham Junior High School.

The Board accepted a resignation from Angela Lappin as a teacher.
