Hofer Trial Postponed to August

The trial of Melly Hofer has been postponed until August.

The 35-year-old Hofer is charged with reckless homicide and aggravated DUI related to a crash south of Effingham the morning of December 5, 2013. The crash resulted in the death of 17-year-old Brittany Baker of Watson.

A hearing scheduled Wednesday morning on a request by the defense to quash a subpoena filed by the prosecution was continued until June 4 at 10am at the request of the prosecution.  

Hofer had been slated to go on trial June 2, but defense attorney Ed Deters said his client sought a continuance and the trial was rescheduled for August 4 at 8:30am.

Hofer remains in custody in Effingham County Jail.
