Local Bar to Close

This weekend will be the final weekend of operation for a local bar.

Effingham Mayor Merv Gillenwater, who serves as the city's liquor commissioner, confirmed that The Hangout will be ceasing operations after this weekend.  The bar has been operating along US Route 40 between Effingham and Teutopolis.

Asked about the closing, Gillenwater said Saturday night will be the last night for The Hangout and then the operators will turn in their license.  

Gillenwater said the turning in of the license is being done voluntarily, and said the operators could have remained open through the end of the month, when the license expires.
