An Effingham man pleaded guilty Monday to a count of participation in methamphetamine manufacturing.
41-year-old Terry Mays was sentenced to five years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea.
Mays and co-defendant 40-year-old Sharon Hobbs of Effingham were arrested after Effingham City Police discovered a meth lab at a house in the 400 block of Franklin Avenue in March. Police had been called to an early morning disturbance and while investigating discovered activity in the home consistent with drug manufacturing. After residents gave consent for the search, police made the discovery of methamphetamine manufacturing equipment. Plastic bottles used to smoke meth were found inside the home and in the backyard.
Hobbs was also in court Monday and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Her trial date was set for July 7 with a pre-trial hearing on any pending motions scheduled for June 17. She's free on bond while awaiting trial.
