A Sailor Springs resident is hospitalized after a crash in Clay County Tuesday night.
Illinois State Police report 47-year-old Buffie Davidson was traveling on the Dieterich/Clay City Blacktop, about two miles north of Clay City when the vehicle she was driving ran off the roadway.
Police say the crash occurred at 6:19pm. A witness observed Davidson's vehicle almost strike a railroad crossing arm post on the north edge of Clay City. The witness observed the vehicle drive off the roadway to the right and do a Figure 8 on the shoulder. The vehicle then returned to the roadway and drove north on the Blacktop at what the witness termed a high rate of speed. The witness then saw the vehicle go off the roadway to the right and overturn end over end.
Prior to coming to rest, police say Davidson's vehicle traveled down an embankment for approximately 120 feet, then struck a stand of trees before going airborne and overturning. The vehicle came to rest in the trees, on its top.
The witness attempted first aid on Davidson, who was entrapped in the vehicle.
Davidson was taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment.
State police cited Davidson for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash, improper lane usage, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
