An Effingham woman was found dead in her home Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 12:30pm Tuesday, Effingham City Police responded to a residence in Effingham after family members discovered 22-year old Kayla Houston unresponsive.

Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey pronounced Houston dead at the scene 12:51 p.m. No foul play is suspected. An autopsy was conducted Wednesday afternoon. Guffey says preliminary results indicate Houston died due to asphyxiation. Final reports and toxicology tests are pending.

The investigation into Houston's death is ongoing by the Effingham County Coroner's Office, Effingham City Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
