A motorcycle struck a car on the interstate in Effingham Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred just after 4:30pm on I-57/70 between the Keller Drive and US Route 45 interchanges.  State police say a cycle operated by 25-year-old Derek Murray of Altamont was traveling at what State Police termed a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of a car driven by 33-year-old Bryan Scroggins of Mattoon.

Murray was injured in the crash and was treated at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Both drivers were cited; Murray for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and operating an uninsured motor vehicle and warrants from Effingham County charging failure to appear in court on other charges, and Scroggins on a Coles County warrant charging failure to appear in court on an unrelated charge.
