The deadline is approaching for Effingham homeowners to apply for grant funding through the Effingham Home Owner Rehabilitation Project 2014.
City officials say there are currently 16 spots available, with three of those sports reserved for applicants with special needs.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago is sponsoring the program through a partnership with Washington Savings Bank and the City of Effingham. FHLB-C has provided a $400,000 grant for eligible home improvements. The grant dollars must be spent within the year according to the guidelines of the program. Qualified applicants will be provided up to $7,800 per household to make eligible improvements.
This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may be picked up at Effingham County Senior Center, Helen Matthes Library, both Washington Savings Bank facilities, City Hall, and accessed online at www.effinghamil.com. Applications must be turned into the City Administration Office located on the second floor of City Hall. Please allow 15 to 30 minutes for an initial screening at that time. City staff will go through the application with the applicant to make sure it is complete, and all supporting documentation is provided. If the application is not complete, City staff will provide further instruction to the applicant.
The deadline to submit applications is March 31.
Stop by the Administration Offices at City Hall for assistance, or phone Jane Kemper at City Hall at 342-5308 and she will help you with the application process.
