Local attorney Bill Totten was appointed Monday to represent an Effingham man in his drug case.
23-year-old Albert D. Church is charged with delivery of a controlled substance under an accountability theory. Church is accused of notifying an Effingham woman of someone who could supply her with heroin. The woman later died and authorities are investigating whether drug use led to her death.
Totten was appointed by Judge Marc Kelly to represent Church due to the continued illness of Conflicts Public Defender Richard Runde.
Church is due back in court for his first appearance with Totten on Monday, March 10 at 11am.
