After what they termed "an unproductive bargaining session" Tuesday night, members of the Teutopolis Education Association overwhelmingly authorized their bargaining team to call a strike.

No strike date has been set as of yet.

"I have to admit, I'm frustrated and disappointed with the lack of progress in negotiations," said TEA Co-President Karen Smith.  "We've offered several proposals to the Board, but they haven't given us anything other than their initial offer.  We can't seem to get the Board to understand that we won't accept a contract that makes it difficult for the school district to attract and retain quality teachers.  The Board's proposal simply is not good for the District, community or for students--now or in the future."

No further negotiations are scheduled at this point, but the TEA statement said they "remain committed to reaching a fair settlement and meeting anytime the Board of Education is ready to negotiate."
