Newton High School claimed the championship of the Cumberland Pirates Boys Track Invitational at Kathryn Connor Hodges Memorial Track Tuesday.
The Eagles tallied 111.83 points followed by Cumberland 99.33, Altamont 92.5, Vandalia 92, Casey-Westfield 84, Effingham St. Anthony 54, Teutopolis 31.33, Broadlands Heritage 23, Dieterich 21, Hume Shiloh 16 and Brownstown/St. Elmo 15.
Newton’s Hayden Borgic won the 800 with a time of 2:02.64 minutes and was second on the 300 hurdles in 43.23. Owen Schackmann claimed the 300 hurdles in 42.69 seconds while teammate Borgic was second in the 110 hurdles in 15.96.
The Eagles did well in the relay events, taking the 4×800 relay with a time of 9:05.38. Jackson Sornberger, Wade Ochs, Borgic and Parker Harris were team members. The Eagles were second in the 4×100 relay in 45.84 with Matthew Haskett, Evan Zumbahlen, Quincy Fulton and Brock Anderson. The Eagles took second in the 4×200 relay in 1:40.85 with Anderson, Parker Shaffer, Henry Will and Caleb Flasch. They also were second in the 4×400 relay in 3:45.55. On the team were Zumbahlen, Will, Borgic and Haskett.
Altamont’s Ben Roedl was a three event winner. He claimed first in the high jump at 1.93 meters, first in the long jump at 6.23 meters and first in the triple jump at 13.25 meters.
Altamont’s 4×400 relay team was a winner in 3:38.96 minutes. Team members were Jacob Johnson, Hayden Bridges, Trent Tedrick and Hayden Summers. Brock Wendling took second in the shot at 13.82 meters and second in the discus at 41.01.
Cumberland’s Reid Carlen won the 100 in 11.47 seconds and was second in the 200 in 23.70. Kelby Bierman was second in the triple jump at 11.55 meters. The 4×800 relay team placed second in 9:10.00. Team members were Aydan Oakley, Sawyer Wellbaum, Landon Finn and Riley Morgan.
St. Anthony’s Camden Bloemer finished second in the 3200 in 10:36.06. Calvin Sudkamp was second in the high jump at 1.82 meters.
Dieterich’s Trevor Crutcher won the 1600 in 4:53.65 minutes and claimed the 3200 in 10:05.02.
Teutopolis’ Karson Zerrusen won the 110 hurdles in 15.24 seconds. Anthony Roley was a winner in the shot with a throw of 15.34 meters.
Brownstown/St. Elmo’s Trenten Monnet won the discus with a throw of 45.45 meters.
